अंतरिक्ष पर्यटन को कई लोग पर्यावरण के लिए खतरा बता रहे हैं. जेफ बोजोस और रिचर्ज ब्रैनसन की हालिया यात्रा के बाद इसके विरोध और होने लगा है.

हाल ही में दुनिया के सबसे अमीर व्यक्ति जेफ बेजोस ने अपनी पहली अंतरिक्ष यात्रा की. इससे पहले रिचर्ड ब्रेनसन भी कुछ देर अंतरिक्ष में घूम कर वापस आ गए. इस दो घटनों ने अंतरिक्ष पर्यटन के लिए नए आयाम खोल दिए हैं. दुनिया में बहुत सारे अंतरिक्ष यात्रा करना चाहते हैं. लेकिन कई लोग इसके विरोध में हैं. उनका मानना है कि अंतरिक्ष पर्यटन दुनिया की जलवायु को बचाने के लिए किए जा रहे प्रयासों के लिए नुकासान देह है. आइए जानते हैं कि क्या वाकई ऐसा है और ऐसा क्यों कहा जा रहा है.

पूरी दुनिया इस समय जलवायु परिवर्तन के दुष्परिणामों से निपटने का प्रयास कर रही है. इसके लिए पैसे की कमी बहुत ही बड़ी चुनौती है. बहुत सारे विशेषज्ञ एक सुर में कह रहे हैं कि दुनिया इस समय जलवायु आपातकाल से गुजर रही है, लेकिन इसे स्वीकार ही नहीं किया जा रहा है. एक के बाद एक प्राकृतिक आपदाएं और धीरे-धीरे लेकिन लगातार बढ़ते तापमान और समुद्री जलस्तर इन चेतावनियों की गंभीरता बढ़ाते जा रहे हैं.

सबसे बड़ा सवाल यही है कि आखिर अंतरिक्ष पर्यटन जलवायु परिवर्तन के खिलाफ कैसे हैं. दरअसल सही सवाल कैसे की जगह क्यों है. अंतरिक्ष में यात्रा करना बहुत खर्चीला है जबकि दुनिया के अमीर से अमीर देश पृथ्वी को बचाने के लिए पैसा नहीं जुटा पा रहे हैं. दूसरी बात यह है कि मानवीय गतिविधियां खास तौर पर आर्थिक गतिविधियां ग्लोबल वार्मिंग और जलवायु परिवर्तन के लिए ज्यादा जिम्मेदार हैं. इसके लिए प्रदूषण और ग्लोबल वार्मिंग वाली गतिविधियों का कम करना जरूरी है. लेकिन अंतरिक्ष पर्यटन का भी प्रदूषण में योगदान होगा और खासा योगदान होगा.

एक तरफ लोगों को सलाह दी जाती है कि वे अपने कार्बन बजट कम करें. इसके लिए जहां तक संभव हो वाहन के उपयोग करने की जगह पैदल चले और निजी वाहन की जगह सार्वजनिक संसाधनों का उपयोग करें. मांस खाना कम करें. खाने की बर्बादी से बचें. लेकिन अंतरिक्ष पर्यटन के लिए अमीर लोग केवल अपने आमोद प्रमोद के लिए करोड़ों रुपये खर्च कर बहुत सारा कार्बन उत्सर्जन करते हुए अंतरिक्ष में जाएं यह बात बहुत से लोगों को न्याय संगत नहीं लगती.

इन लोगों का मानना है कि अमीरों का अंतरिक्ष पर्यटन जलवायु परिवर्तन से निपटने के लिए प्रयास कर रहे लोगों के लिए निराशा जनक है. वैसे तो हर तरह का पर्यटन कार्बन उत्सर्जन करता है, इसका मतलब यह नहीं कि पर्यटन की खत्म कर देना चाहिए. लेकिन अंतरिक्ष पर्यटन का मामला अलग है.

11 जुलाई को वर्जिन गैलेक्टिक स्पेस के मालिक रिचर्ड ब्रैनसन की फ्लाइट को ही लें. इस 160 किलोमीटर की एक यात्रा में अंटलांटिक पार की आने जाने की पूरी हवाई यात्रा का ईंधन लगा. एक आंकड़े के मुताबिक लंदन से न्यूयॉर्क की हवाई यात्रा 1.24 मेट्रिक टन का कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड उत्सर्जित करती है. इसे ऐसे भी कह सकते हैं कि डेढ़ घंटे की उड़ान उतना ही प्रदूषण फैला रही है जितना एक औसत कार 4,800 किलोमीटर चलती है.

अंतरिक्ष यात्रा बेशक अभी बहुत महंगी है और पर्यावरण के लिहाज से चिंता की भी विषय है, फिर भी अंतरिक्ष पर्यटन तभी संभव होना चाहिए जब यह ऐसे भविष्य को आश्वस्त करें जिसमें हमारे ग्रह पर सभी लोग सुरक्षित रह सकें. वह कम से कम हमारे ग्रह आवासीयता को नष्ट करने में तो भागीदार बिलकुल ना हो. पृथ्वी ही हमारे जीवन का स्रोत है और केवल यही ऐसा ग्रह है जहां हम रह सकते हैं.

Although every type of tourism emits carbon, it does not mean that tourism should be abolished. But the case of space tourism is different. Take the flight of Richard Branson, the owner of Virgin Galactic Space, on July 11. In this one journey of 160 km, the fuel for the entire journey to and from across the Atlantic was used. According to one figure, air travel from London to New York emits 1.24 metric tons of carbon dioxide.
