The common man may get a shock in the days to come. Power companies can increase the cost of electricity. Indeed, under the burden of debt, electricity producers of the country have sought the help of the government to follow the guidelines of the environment ministry.

According to information from sources, government and private power producers have asked the government to help in the cost of upgrading technology in coal based old plants. According to the new guideline, the companies have to technically upgrade (retro fittings) to reduce the pollution level in power generation.

Company want help.

According to sources, the companies have requested the government to utilize some portion of the funds made as green cess as the expenditure on retrofitting. According to sources, the power ministry will contact the Finance Ministry on this issue. In fact, the government takes 400 rupees per quintal in the form of green cess on coal.
