जनरल नरवणे ने सीमावर्ती क्षेत्रों में नशे के आतंकवाद पर भी चिंता व्यक्त की और कहा कि स्थानीय स्तर पर प्रशासन इस दिशा में बेहतर काम कर रहा है. उन्होंने कहा कि महिला अधिकारी पहले से ही सेना में सेवाएं प्रदान कर रही हैं. अब उनकी सेना पुलिस के कोर में भर्ती शुरू कर दी गई है और प्रतिक्रिया उत्साहजनक है.
देश के चीफ ऑफ आर्मी स्टाफ जनरल एमएम नरवणे हिमाचल दौरे पर शिमला पहुंचे हैं. शुक्रवार को राजभवन में राज्यपाल बंडारू दत्तात्रेय से भेंट की. अपनी शिष्टाचार भेंट में उन्होंने सेना और हिमाचल प्रदेश के सीमावर्ती इलाकों के विकास से जुड़े कई मुद्दों पर विस्तार से चर्चा की.
चीफ ऑफ आर्मी स्टाफ के साथ बातचीत के दौरान राज्यपाल ने चीन से लगते प्रदेश के सीमावर्ती क्षेत्रों में बुनियादी अधोसंरचना के विकास पर बल दिया. उन्होंने कहा कि सेना की सड़कों, हेलीपैड और अन्य अधोसंरचना के विकास में अहम भूमिका है. सीमा से लगते गांवों के युवा रोजगार के अवसरों की तलाश में शहरों की ओर पलायन कर रहे हैं, जो चिंता का विषय है. हमें स्थानीय स्तर पर स्वरोजगार और रोजगार की संभावनाओं का पता लगाना चाहिए.

दत्तात्रेय ने कहा कि हिमाचल प्रदेश के निचले क्षेत्रों के लगभग हर घर से युवा भारतीय सेना में सेवाएं दे रहे हैं और पूर्व सैनिकों की संख्या भी काफी अधिक है. उन्होंने सेना प्रमुख के समक्ष शिमला के वाॅकर अस्पताल का मुद्दा भी उठाया. जनरल नरवणे ने कहा कि वह पहले शिमला में आरट्रैक में सेवाएं प्रदान कर चुके हैं और हिमाचल को अपना पुराना घर मानते हैं तथा यहां आकर उन्हें हमेशा खुशी मिलती है. उन्होंने कहा कि भारतीय सेना दुश्मन की हर नापाक कोशिश का मुंहतोड़ जवाब देने में सक्षम है. उन्होंने कहा कि जहां तक चीन के साथ सीमा का सवाल है, इस विषय में बातचीत हो रही है और चिंता की कोई बात नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा कि सेना पूरी तरह से सतर्क है और सीमा पर बड़े पैमाने पर पर्याप्त संख्या में सैनिक और मशीनरी तैनात की गई है. उन्होंने कहा कि सेना ने सीमावर्ती इलाकों में सड़कों के निर्माण के लिए आगामी 5 से 10 साल लिए योजना तैयार की गई है. उन्होंने कहा कि इससे इन क्षेत्रों के विकास में सहायता मिलेगी और युवाओं का पलायन भी रुकेगा.
